Darcy hadn’t been back in her flat long after walking Ben when there was a heavy knocking on the door. When she answered it, George and Libby were both standing there, looking very excited.

‘The article is in the paper. Mum just called, she’s in the Bubble and Froth and wants you to come down to see it,’ George said.

With everything that had happened the night before and that morning, Darcy had almost forgotten about the article. She still couldn’t shake off the feeling that something had gone wrong between her and Riley, but this would be a good distraction until she saw him again later that night. She grabbed her bag and followed George and Libby out of the flats.

‘Is it good?’ Darcy asked. Carmel had said it would be but she really hoped that it would have the desired effect. After all, if Annabel somehow painted Riley, the lighthouse or the town in a bad light, then it would be Darcy’s fault for arranging it all.

‘Mum didn’t say, but she sounded pretty happy.’

They pushed open the door of the pub and Darcy was surprised to see how crowded it was.

‘Here she is, the woman behind the article. It wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for our Darcy Davenport,’ Verity called and the pub cheered.

Darcy blushed with the attention, as a few people clapped her on the back or shook her hand. When the crowd had calmed down a bit, she approached Verity. ‘Is it OK?’

‘It’s a wonderful article,’ Verity said, excitedly. ‘There’s all the history of the place, presumably from Riley or she’s spent her time doing her research, there’s all the stuff about the proposals and then there’s our hero, Riley, being all rugged and manly and looking for love. Have a look yourself.’ Verity handed her a copy of the paper. ‘Page five.’

Darcy flicked through and was delighted to see it was a double-page spread. The photo of Riley half naked on the boat with the sun and lighthouse behind him took up half of one page. He looked dramatic and sexy as hell. There was also another photo of one of the elderly couples who were at the interview and then one of them all together looking sad. She started reading and, credit where it was due, Annabel had painted a wonderful story, delivering it with heart and warmth. A large part of the article was about Riley and how he hoped he could find love in the lighthouse just like his dad had. She didn’t know if it would make any difference but it was a great article. She just hoped that Riley wouldn’t mind the coverage.

Maggie was standing nearby. ‘It’s great, isn’t it? But you should see the comments on the article online, there were over three thousand the last time I looked. A lot of them are from women offering to help Riley out if he is lonely and some saying how hot he is, but many of the comments are getting behind the campaign to save the lighthouse.
